This was such a fun session. Tommy and Erica contacting me while planning their vacation at the Aventura Spa Palace Resort in Mexico’s Riviera Maya. They were thinking about a photo session of the two of them together. Not wedding or engagement photographs because they ahve been married for quite a while, but photographs of the two of them in that fabulous location. The session was really enjoyable, it is always fun to photograph a nice couple with good “chemistry” and Tommy and Erica and it was fun to explore the different little corners of the resort. Gracias Tommy and Erica, I hope you enjoy the photographs!

Cancun PhotograpThe briThis was an especially pretty one! Josh and Maddy had two weddings, one in Mexico and one in Canada! I was fortunate to be chosen as their photgrapher for the beautiful Mexico wedding on a gorgeous beach in the Rivera Maya. The weather in the Riviera Maya can change remarkably quickly. When i arrived at the resort it was a beautiful sunny day, however the weather changed completely from one second to the next and rain began to pour down! I can only imagine what Maddy and Josh were feeling, I was in shock! Amazingly the weather changed once again and held all the way through the ceremony! All in all a beautiful day with a fantastic couple!
guys..
Maddy getting ready…
I was able to do a few quick bridal portraits, by quick I mean about 2 minutes on the way out the door for the ceremony which was overdue to start. In moments like these are I am thankful for the experience I have in shooting weddings, it really does help me anticipate and cover the day more completely even when things are not going quite on schedule.
the ceremony…
the rings and some of the native coral.
The weather lifted and the light was gorgeous!
I tried to blog only one of these portraits of the bride, but couldn’t decide between the two. What do you think?
What a beautiful day!
The wedding party…

One thing I love about destination weddings is that they lend themselves so well to very intimate, expressive ceremonies. Witnessing so many couple’s special day, each one unique and beautiful, I realize over and over again that it is not large guest list or all the trimmings and extras that make the wedding truly meaningful, rather it is the spirit of love and commitment that can be felt most powerfully. Of course sand, ocaean and sky make th most wonderful decorations! Shura and Tim love the ocean, and he actually proposed under water while scuba diving! So I guess the choice of an intimate beach ceremony at the beautiful and relaxing El Dorado Maroma (AKA Mi Hotelito) surrounded by a close group of friends was a natural one. Thank you Shura and Tim for allowing us to join you on your wonderful day, best wishes to the two of you!
I liked the warm, rich colors of the flowers! Rings and rose petals…
Shura’s bouquet.
A little champagne toast during the getting ready photos from the HMOH. (honorary matron of honor!).
Shura and tim met before the ceremony so we could get photographs of the two of them. That was great but kind of scary when it started to rain during the photo session! They were good sports though and thankfully the rain stopped in plenty of time!
The ceremony on the beach.
Tim’s vows were on little slates just like his underwater proposal! It was hilarious!
Time to celebrate!
The coctail hour was held in a poolside palapa, very laid back.
A few night photographs after dinner. The second was captured by Lauren, I loved her take on the moment!

Its always fun to photograph a great celebration! Kim and Reggie’s wedding was the first time I had ever been to the Hilton in Cancun. It is a great hotel, I loved the view and the relaxing atmosphere. The wedding itself was planned to be very special. In addition to the Cancun Hilton‘s dedicated wedding planner, Jessica Parra, Kim and Reggie had a great wedding coordinator who travelled with them to Mexico, Candice Smith from Something Blue Events and there seemed to be all kinds of neat details everywhere I looked and never a slow moment. The weather was kind of touch and go for a while (hurricane Gustav was passing by out at sea on its way to cause so much trouble in the US) but Kim and Reggie were able to have the ceremony as planned overlooking the Cancun ocean. Hooray!
Reggie and Kim, You were a blast to photograph I look forward to seeing you both again in November!
I have never seen a bride shed more happy tears on one day! And with very good cause. Reggie had a way of going the extra mile to give Kim the most lovely surprises, cards and speeches, thank goodness for waterproof mascara! She had finally dried her eyes from Reggie’s multiple gifts and when her mom presented Kim with mementos from her childhood, more tears!
Wow! Things were running a little late after all those tears, but I know I would not forgive myself if I didn’t push the pause button for just a moment to capture portraits of the radiant bride.
A few photographs from the ceremony…
And some happy photographs of the newly married couple.
I thought this was one of the most beautiful cakes I have seen!
A bit of reception decor in the Cancun Hilton ballroom.
Reggie and Kim’s first dance.
Reggie went after the garter and came out with this “private property” sign!
speeches…
I don’t remember what the groom was reading but I do know that more tears were the result!
Blog readers will see more of the smiling faces below very soon when I shoot their Cancun wedding in November! Thanks so much Rachel and Aaron for spreading the word!
