Walking on sunshine. Woa-o… If wedding photo sessions had soundtracks I am pretty sure that’s what would have been playing during Ana Cristina and Rodrigo’s wedding day photo shoot at the Hacienda Chichi Suarez in Merida, Yucatan. Lindsey and I were blessed with an unbeatable trifecta… a delightfully happy, ultra low maintenance couple, one of my favorite playgrounds, the hacienda Chichi Suarez and to top it off plenty of time on a fall day that could not have been more divine.
It didn’t surprise me for a minute that these two even had rainbows without a rain cloud in sight! Rodrigo y Ana Cristina, muchas felicidades!

The first look, bride and groom arrived at the same time in separate cars, it was so fun to see them so thrilled to meet up as bride and groom and get their day rolling.

Sometimes people ask me about my ¨typical clients¨ which I have to say is a question that completely stumps me. We have been so blessed to meet and photograph amazing brides and grooms from literally every continent, photographing very intimate weddings and affairs with surprisingly long guest lists, beach weddings, church weddings, extremely formal and elegantly casual affairs, crazy parties and more reserved celebrations. I think the common thread that seems to tie together all our couples is their willingness to go the extra mile to have special photographs to remember and celebrate their ¨big day¨. Oh and of course they are all simply beautiful people and totally crazy about each other! On a more random level a common trait that seems to appear would be that we have photographed many, many graphic design professionals, both brides and grooms, which is totally fantastic! I love knowing that our beloved jpegs will be in good hands and get put to many creative uses. In this case the beautiful bride is an experienced graphic designer and when Ana Mercedes reached out to me over a year ago she already was excited about the photographs. It was hard to have to wait an entire year for the photo session at the Quinta Montes Molina! Ana y Lucio, espero que les gusten las fotos y que no les haya cansado demasiado! Fue muy especial fotografiarlos, gracias y un abrazo!
La primera foto es de Lauren… estaba increible el cielo!

I told you she was beautiful…

Lucio was all smiles waiting for the first glimpse of his bride!

The “first look” on the front porch of the Quinta Montes Molina, very special.

Photographs of the couple in different areas of this historic home.

Bridal details, Ana’s bouquet and shoes…

We captured some very special bridal portraits of Ana in the interior of the quinta… I could have photographed a few more hours (or days, haha!) and not run out of interesting locations but of course Ana and Lucio needed to get married!

Marimar and Luis are such a sweet couple, it was a true honor for Team Medina to be able to photograph them on their big day. The ¨novios¨chose to be photographed in a very familiar location and I think that choice added a personal and intimate element to the photographs. Here in Mexico (or maybe this is just one of those crazy Yucatan things!) the superstition is that if you bury a knife in the yard you will be safe from rain…apparently this is not foolproof! Of course the superstition that I personally subscribe to is that rain on the wedding day means good luck in marriage. Seeing Marimar and Luis Hernan together I know that they are definitely lucky in love. Marimar y Luis, gracias por todo, esperamos que les gusten las fotografias y les deseamos todo lo mejor!

Familiar faces! It was so much fun to be able to do a post wedding photo session with Mariana and Eduardo. The session felt very relaxed and the colors and textures of the lovely Hacienda Petcanche made an incredible backdrop. Eduardo and Mariana thank you for putting up with all my creative craziness twice! Best wishes for the wonderful adventure you have ahead of you this coming year!

Beautiful couple, amazing location…I am just about speechess! (and if you have been reading this blog and are thinking that its about time, since this is a photo blog, not a collection of essays! But I really do photograph the most amazing couples and sometimes I just can’t help babbling on. Feel free to skip to the good stuff, you know, the images!)
Kathy, Claudio and Lauren and I were so fortunate to have the use of a historic family residence on the very lovely Paseo de Montejo here in Merida for this wedding day portrait session. This home is one of the two ¨casas gemelas¨ or twin houses, very striking turn of the century European inspired landmarks, and it was a delight to see that this incredible mansion is being cared for with such love and respect. Kathy and Claudio were a pleasure to photograph and if it hadn´t been for the fact that they needed to go get married I could have happily continued to shoot away!

I hope to be forgiven for a blog post heavy in both wedding day detail photographs and superlatives. I met Zach and Lolita several months prior to the wedding when they came to Merida, Mexico for a site visit to their wedding venue, the Hacienda Xcanatun. I was delighted to be able to meet “my” bride and groom in person and very excited knowing their celebration would take place not only in Merida but at one of my very favorite destination wedding locations!
For those who might be unfamiliar, Yucatan’s haciendas are true hidden gems, as former plantations they are incredible historic sites, very unique to this part of the Peninsula and not found in the Mayan Riviera or Tulum, areas that have been developed recently. Xcanatun dates from the XVIII century and is now a wonderful boutique hotel, it is charming and intimate with an upscale feel, and was the perfect setting for this very lovely wedding. Zach and Lolita, Lindsey and I wish you all the very best! Felicidades a los dos!

Lolita on her way to meet her groom for a “first look” and bride and groom photgraphs on the grounds of Hacienda Xcanatun, these two are so great together!

The backdrop of the ceremony was the hacienda chapel, it was very peaceful and beautiful.

The dinner reception was held on the hacienda’s outdoor terrace. Zach and Lolita had music all throughout the evening, an orchestra accompanied the ceremony followed by a traditional Yucatecan trio (perfect for the location and ambience!) and finally after dinner a local salsa band had the guests on their feet!

Lindsey and I were able to “escape” the reception for a few minutes with Zach and Lolita for a few nigh time photos…

I think it has been firmly established by now that my couples are rockstars each and every one! I truly could not feel more fortunate than to be the photographer of such beautiful and amazing people on their happiest day! Maria Elena and David are a delightful couple, just as sweet as can be. The wedding was held at the Hacienda Chichi Suarez and the details were implemented beautifully by Yucatan’s star wedding planners at BAKU. All I can say is wow, this wedding was amazing and Lindsey and I really enjoyed photographing it. As much as I LOVE LOVE LOVE photographing at new and different locations I also really find it incredibly energizing to return to favorite familiar locations because each wedding is always full of unique challenges, surprises and creative opportunities. Maria Elena y David, gracias por el honor de fotografiar tan bonita boda, les felicitamos y les deseamos lo mejor!
I love the next image. The wedding was held outdoors at night, the backdrop of the ceremony was the confessionary, which is a very unique small stone chapel.
A detail of the cross above the altar. The fireworks were timed for the bride and grooms exit from the ceremony.
I have to share some of the hacienda wedding details and decor, it was gorgeous.

So beautiful! Miko and Kenji were married in a very intimate and spiritual ceremony at the Hacienda Uayamón in Campeche, Mexico. Uayamón is truly one of the Yucatan Peninsula´s gems and I could not feel more happy that so many people have become familiar with this magical hacienda through my work. I tend to get multiple emails every week asking about this location which tells me one thing… that many of my blog ¨readers¨ actually skip my ramblings and just look at the pictures. Which is something that I endorse wholeheartedly! This hacienda is far off the beaten path in the state of Campeche and Kenji and Miko experienced some interesting adventures along the way that I am sure will make fun stories someday. Their spiritual wedding ceremony was truly moving and I felt honored to be present, the atmosphere was simply magnificent and not something I can easily describe in words. Rather than trying I will let the images speak. Congratulations Miko and Kenji, and thank you.
Kenji and Miko symbolically joined two candles to light one single flame, but their individual flames continued to burn next to each other throughout the ceremony.

it has been such a treat this fall to photograph beautiful local weddings like this Kika and Chino’s at the Hacienda Chichi Suarez here in Merida, Yucatan, Mexico. Kika is a graphic designer and almost as excited about the photographs as I was. She and Chino were willing to go the extra mile for their photos and we met at the hacienda in the afternoon for a “first look” and portrait session before the civil ceremony and Catholic mass took place later in the evening. The bride and groom were both so happy all during the day, and I love how that happiness could not help but show in the photographs!

Ana Paulina and Gabriel will be familiar to those who have been reading the blog for a while. In August we had the pleasure of photographing Ana Paulina and Gabriel with celebrating with their family and friends their civil wedding at the beach in Uaymitun, Yucatan. Ana Paulina and Gabriel are a fantastic couple and obviously know how to throw a party so we were really looking forward to the ¨main event¨! The Catholic mass was held at the Nuestra Señora de Libano church in Mérida, Yucatán and the amazing reception was held at a ¨casa de campo¨ in the small town of Cholul on the outskirts of Mérida. Please be sure to scroll down for a glimpse of the jaw dropping reception. It was all a bit too amazing to put into words so I will let a few of the wedding photographs do the talking!
Things ran a little bit late and the novios saw each other for the first time shortly before the sunset. We hurried a bit chasing the last light but it was worth it, I was really happy with the photographs of this beautiful couple.
The next shot is not going to win any awards…but I wanted to post it because I thought that it was such a neat detail…rather than giving her bridesmaids bouquets Ana Paulina gave them thease really neat flower bracelets.
Cholul… the ceremony site was simply breathtaking.
As a surprise for the bride and groom a video was played during their first dance of the two of them dancing together and Ana Paulina´s quinceañera! They were so cute! It was a real crowd pleaser.

Monica and Francisco held their destination wedding at one of my very favorite locations. The Hacienda Temozon is a just a spectacular and unique wedding venue. Dating from 1655 this authentic Yucatecan hacienda is full of history and local flavor. For those not familiar with the area, Yucatan has its own cuisine and culture, the Mayan langueage is still spoken here and Yucatan is home to wonders like the pyramids of Chichen Itza….sorry for rambling, but I can’t help but be thankful to live in an area with so much spririt!
I also could not feel more honored or proud to be entrusted to photograph events such as Monica and Francisco’s Mexico wedding or happier to have had Lauren as my assistant photographer throughout the day. Monica y Francisco, les deseo todo lo mejor y espero verlos en Merida para festejar el aniversario!

Minty and Giovanni’s was elegant, joyful, and best of all right here at home in Merida! It has been wonderful to photograph events close to home this fall and to see and photograph so many familiar faces. And let’s face it… Here in Yucatan people know how to throw a party like no where else! Minty and Giovanni were such a wonderful couple to photograph, I loved the way they both absolutely lit up with happiness when they first saw each other before the ceremony. I don’t think that either of them ever stopped smiling for the rest of the night! Minty y Giovanni, me encantó poder acompañarlos en un dia tan inolvidable!
The serene image in the doorway is Lindsey´s!
I loved Giovanni´s expression when he saw Minty for the first time!
Not sure how many are in this photo but there were 20 bridesmaids in all including some of my favorite past and future brides!
I couldn´t decide between the next two images of Minty walking down the aisle on her father´s arm, so much happiness!
A few reception details, the reception was held at the Club Campestre.

There is no place like home! After traveling for almost all of our spring weddings it really has been a lot of fun to shoot a succession of local weddings here in Yucatan this fall! Andy and Enid are such a sweet international couple, with Enid coming from Merida, Yucatan, Mexico and her fiancee Andy from far away England. It was wonderful to see how the bride and groom incorporated the culture and feel of the Yucatan into their wedding at the 16th century Hacienda Petcanche in Merida. The garden of the hacienda seemed perfect for their event. Andy and Enid just seem to be so absolutely right for each other and it was a joy to see them so happy on their big day.
Andy’s very delighted expression as Enid arrived in the garden area for their “first look”.
Enid made great use of the hacienda’s colors for her fall wedding, she also managed to work quite a bit of bling into her wedding look!
Bride and groom portraits at the Hacienda Petcanche prior to the wedding mass.
The ceremony was held at the Itzimna Church, a very traditional church for weddings in Merida,
The next image belongs to my fab assistant Lauren! I loved this one.
