Mexico Wedding Photography Best of 2009, Year in Review Slideshow, Elizabeth Medina Photography

I think it is no secret to anyone reading this blog that we love, love, love all our brides and grooms, they are the very best people! I certainly can´t imagine a sweeter job than documenting their love for each other. We hope you enjoy our tribute to some of the most special people anywhere, all of the amazing couples we were privileged to photograph during 2009. Website, dear website, welcome back….and a cyber walk down memory lane.

Absence make the heart grow fonder and sometimes you just don’t know what you have until it is suddenly taken away…cliché but oh so true we found out this week, when the Elizabeth Medina Photography website (along with many others) was taken offline due to damaged server hardware. Having had an online portfolio since very early in the millennium with never so much as a few hours offline, almost a week of downtime was something of a shock. Not only was our web portfolio and contact information gone, but also our couple’s sideshows, web galleries, hundreds of blog posts, not to mention that irreplaceable lifeline to the world…EMAIL. (bringing to mind another cliché… one about being careful what you wish for). We greatly apologize for the inconvenience the downtime has caused to our clients and users of the website and blog and we are happy to be back! At the moment our new emails are being being joined chaotically in the inbox with a mixture of emails from the week, so if anyone has sent an email and not received a reply we would ask that you please resend.
Such nostalgic feelings about the website brought back memories of how our life on the web began. Here are a few images from the early days, back then the muse was babies, children, maternity and family (just realizing we went kind of backwards, in ending up focused on wedding photography!) and yes, in the beginning I shot only with film (35 mm and medium format) and printed my black and white images in the darkroom!
emedina_blogpost_oldsite_00011 This was the first page of the original website, I think it went live around 2002. I had been very serious about photography for quite a while but had not begin to use a computer until that time!

Cancun Wedding Photographer, Art Show at Luxury Avenue Boutique Mall, Cancun, Mexico

Hmmm…never thought it would happen but somehow it did! Carolina Herrera, Louis Vuitton, Cartier, and  Elizabeth Medina Photography finally all under the same roof!  Although I would not mind if that roof were the one over my closet at least we are rubbing elbows for a month in the Luxury Avenue mall!

It was an honor to be asked to contribute some of my wedding artwork to a wedding inspired art show in Cancun’s Luxury Avenue Mall. The art show was part of a larger event called “Mes del Romance” or Month or Romance, which highlighted Cancun as a natural wedding destination.

One of my very favorite wedding locations in Cancun is the JW Marriott and Casa Magna Marriott, it has been our pleasure to shoot some very special weddings at that venue, whose amazing event coordinator Josefina Luna was instrumental in making this event a reality. Finally, a very cool part of this experience was knowing that it was attended by national and international wedding publications such as Martha Stewart Weddings and Southern Bride as well as internationa travel agetns and wedding planners. I love thinking that my artwork could somehow help brides and grooms discover some of the magic of a Cancun wedding!

It was fun to see some of our favorite Cancun wedding images as 5 foot long banners! I loved being able to share printed images from the weddings of some amazing brides and grooms!

Mexico Wedding Photography, Haciendas and Historic Homes… Guess Who Wrote the Book?

I hope no one minds if I take a few minutes break from shooting, editing and blogging up a storm to share a little studio project. This little book is volume one, (volume two will naturally feature Mexico’s fantastic beach wedding destinations) was done as a personal project to showcase some of our wedding photography  in Mexico’s incomparable haciendas and historic homes. I truly feel that there is nothing better than a destination wedding in Mexico and that Mexico’s haciendas are magical wedding destinations. Having photographed a good number of weddings at haciendas in Yucatan and throughout Mexico and just love for people to find out about the amazing locations for wedding photography in Mexico through my work!

Those that have been reading this blog for a while already know that I consider travel + leisure magazine as one of my photographic influences so I hoped this project would reflect a bit of that  T+L vibe. Being busy with work for my clients I turned to Karen Dahlquist for the design and layout of this book. That proved to be a great decision because it was way too hard for me to choose just a few images from each wedding/location! I would have given up had I not been able to send folders of images for Karen to wade through! Maybe because I was at all the weddings and have great memories of each one, but I just loved how it all came together. Not sure if amazon.com will be calling soon but I do hope it will give a bit of exposure to Mexico’s haciendas as wedding locations.

Here are a few glimpses at the book’s contents. This spread is dedicated to the Hacienda Xcanatun this is a wonderful wedding location. (Zach and Lolita I can’t wait!)

Another absolute favorite, Hacienda Las Trancas is located in Central Mexico and is a magical destination. I am looking forward to shooting Amy and Matt’s wedding next summer at this location!

The hacienda wedding photography volume includes several weddings from Yucatan’s magnificent group of haciendas operated by Starwood Resorts. This group of haciendas include amazing locations like Temozon, (So excited about upcoming 2009 weddings at that location), San Jose (love, love this one!), Santa Rosa, (very cool hacienda venue, I photographed the very first wedding at Santa Rosa!) and of course Hacienda Uyamon in Campeche, Mexico.

The Hacienda Chichen Itza, it has been several years since I photographed at this location but I would just love to photograph another wedding at the hacienda.

Well, enough of all that… but please stop back soon for Alex and Drew’s wedding at the Royal in Playa del Carmen, to be followed by Katherine and Jim and Kelly and Michael both at the Azul Sesatori! I can’t wait to post each of these colorful one of a kind weddings to the blog, to be followed by Benny and Sandra’s Maya Rivera wedding and finally Jessica and Scott’s incredible San Miguel de Allende wedding.

¡Gracias, Grace!

Whenever I have a chance I love to attend photography seminars. It seems like I always learn something new. One other positive offshoot is that I have met some inspirational photographers who have become great friends. Having met Grace Kim a few years ago at a seminar in Chicago, I knew she was a talented photographer. She and her husband Hun make up GHKIM A busy wedding photography studio in Seattle. When Grace offered to come down and help Lindsey and I out with a few weddings we knew it would be fun and wonderful photographs would result!

We had a great time shooting 3 weddings together, two in Cancun and one near Tulum, and even got to see Chichen Itza (voted one of the seven wonders of the world!) and spend a very short day in Merida between weddings. Thank you Grace for all your hard work! Watch the blog, our weddings are coming soon.

The apples were our placecards at Darlene and Manoj’s fabulous wedding at the JW Marriott in Cancun, what a lovely detail!….Theirs was our third fairy tale wedding…images from all three weddings coming soon!
