This destiantion wedding at Azul Beach was so much fun! I think I was enjoying the smiling faces and bright details so much I almost didn’t want the editing stage to end! This may not be something that an artist should admit to in such a public forum (we all know that art is supposed to be dark and edgy, right?) but I do have to admit that my lens loves happiness! Allison and Adam, thank you for letting us photograph your amazing day! Congratulations!

I pretty much have to love everything about Molly and Josh and their wedding at Le Blanc Resort in Cancun, Mexico. Molly was fearless in her color selections and I loved how the rainbow of color surprises that kept popping up in all of her wedding details all worked together and complemented the natural turquoise setting. There was even a rainbow in the sky before the ceremony!
A few colorful bridal details- the floral purses where bridesmaids gifts and each had a personal message sewn inside.
Bride and groom with their attendants prior to the ceremony.
Loved the first moment of Josh seeing Molly as a bride!
It was a day for crazy weather, we felt so fortunate to be able to capture photographs on the beach! Huge kudos to the wedding staff at Le Blanc who made it possible for the couple to have their dreamed of rooftop after the wind and rain passed by!

Summer was busy with photography and so much else, I am just thrilled that fall is here, although it absolutely does not feel like fall here in the Yucatan, the weather is still definitely still hot and humid here in the tropics! I think I will throw a party on the first somewhat semi mild day if it ever comes. But even with the heat it does seem like fall in the back-to-school-fresh-new -start sense! Here in our small studio we are totally on a roll and gearing up with plans to be at the very top of our game for this fall’s weddings!
Here is a little blog goodness to kick off fall 2012. I admit that I totally fell in love with Shannon and Konstantin. I think you will too, they are such a beautiful couple (and as always when speaking of beauty I mean the inner kind, although of course it can’t be denied that this tends to spill over and make for amazing photo!). The wedding had many family created DIY details that were amazing and made the wedding very personal, and of course the setting at Dreams Riviera Cancun was amazing as ever. Just a few day after photos, so many more I wish I could share…there were many bright and happy laughing images from the day after session but I am choosing these relaxed and quiet images to share here because I think they compliment and go a little bit beyond the very expressive wedding day photographs below.

Wedding day! Here we go… starting off with a few details, a bridal portrait in black and white then something we just loved photographing… Shannon’s “first look’.. with her bridesmaids!

Then over to spend some time with the guys…

While we are shooting we always have in mind the idea that the photographs could lend them selves to the creation of an amazing wedding album which will show the both the elegant and beautiful side of eh. I was totally feeling the future design possibilities of ithe next two photographs of the wedding party…

I have to say that my blogging intentions have not kept pace with reality this summer! Sorry that things have been so slow around here, there is so much I would like to share but not enough hours in the day! I am just going to try to jump in and break the blogging drought with a beach wedding at Playa del Carmen’s Le Reve. The wedding staff at Le Reve is such a hospitable bunch, it was fun for Lauren and I to be able to work with Arlenis and the gang again! Nicole and Brian had a really fun group of friends and family travel to their destination wedding. It was so awesome to see everyone have such a great time dancing to the reggae band! Nicole is a designer and I am sure that you will notice her special flair in the details that California event planner Alison Events incorporated into the wedding. Here is a little peek at the wedding photography from this beautiful day in Playa del Carmen. All images (c)2012 Elizabeth and Lauren Medina.

Francesca and Tommy were married in a beautiful beach ceremony at the Grand Velas Riviera Maya Resort followed by an amazing dance party overlooking the ocean. I have been looking forward to having the chance to add these photos to the blog, the photographs of the bride and groom enjoying the day so fully just makes me smile. This location was new to Lindsey and I, it is a beautiful resort with the most beautiful landscaping, a perfect setting for this laid back but elegant celebration. Basically it was a fairy tale on the beach followed by an amazing party, ending up with everyone in the pool!

I love it when there is time for bridal portraits prior to the ceremony. These of Francesca before the ceremony were some of my favorites. She looked amazing in her incredible Pnina Tornai gown.

The groom prior to the ceremony…alone and with his mother.

Every once in a while I have a conversation with someone who as hard as they try just can’t wrap their mind around the idea of a destination wedding. Why would a couple decide to break with tradition and be married far from home? Why on earth would their friends and family even consider leaving the comfort of home to travel so far to attend the wedding? While I am not able to put the special feeling of a destination wedding into words I am pretty sure that anyone who has attended a destination wedding in an amazing location like Playa del Carmen, Mexico (and I am sure this applies to so many other incredible destinations!) completely gets the attraction! I know that I have witnessed enough destination wedding good vibes to have been made a true believer! And hopefully photos like those we were fortunate to be able to capture for Jillian and Vince will make a few converts of their own!
Jillian and Vince’ celebrated their dream wedding with on a beautiful, private, palm tree lined stretch of Playa del Carmen, Mexico beach and then danced the night away pool side. I could not be happier to share the photographs of this lovely couple’s relaxed and beautiful event. Event coordination for this beautiful weather was by Luisa and Galena of Weddings Riviera Maya. I have to think that one of my favorite things that come with destination wedding photographer territory can also be one of the most bittersweet. Getting to meet wonderful, hospitable and caring people like Janelle and Todd and spend with them their most special day is an amazing privilege! The flip side of the coin- knowing that they live too far away for us to crash their future celebrations! Although as cold as it is where they make their home we won’t give up hope of seeing them again in Mexico one of these winters! Janelle and Todd took such good care of their guests (and photographers!) it was a pleasure to see how they enjoyed their wedding in Akumal, Mexico and we hope the photos capture the spirit of the day. All photographs (c) 2012 Lindsey Medina and Elizabeth Medina.
Its fun seeing the wedding bands that each bride and groom have chosen, Janelle and Todd’s were super unique!

Getting ready and off for the first look! Todd nad Janelle seemed so happy to have this private encounter before the ceremony! And as photographers Lindsey and I were happy to have a chance for some relaxed moments to photograph the couple before things got rolling!

Beach ceremony, Akumal is such a beautiful location. The weather was kind of “iffy” and I think it even rained for a few seconds but fortunately all was good and after the ceremony the sun came peeking out!

I love all the different emotions that are revealed in the next images.

We found Mexico’s next Mariachi!

Accompanied by a Mexican Mariachi trio Janelle and Todd rejoined their guests to party at the Grand Sirenis’ Palapa complete with typical Mexican details like papel picado streamers and the bride and groom calavera cake toppers.

Nope, not finished! The next morning bride and groom were up bright and early for trash the dress photos, so amazing to have the beach to ourselves at such a lovely time of day!

Hola! Its been a while! I know, I know, 2012 has started off a little slow in the blogging department, mostly because of some really fun photo sessions and also because other creative projects have made it hard to find the time to blog. But I am excited to share this really fun couple’s wedding on a beautiful beach in Cancun. These two had so much fun on their wedding day it was contagious, just uploading the days photographs has put a smile on my face today! The day could not have been more gorgeous, could the color of the water in Cancun possibly be more amazing? All photographs (c) 2012 Elizabeth and Lauren Medina.

A few details and getting ready photos with the beautiful bride, then it was off to join the groom for a very emotional “first look”… if anyone out there believes that when the bride and groom see each other before the ceremony it takes away from the emotional moment at the altar I hope you will please be sure to scroll down and check out Chris’ face when Leslie entered the ceremony!

Chris patiently waiting for his bride to arrive for the first look.

Bride and groom had some time alone together before the ceremony, these two just have so much fun together!

Back to join the wedding party and prepare for the ceremony!

Love the navy and hot pink colors, amazing with the turquoise water! And love, love the groomsmen’s navy canvas Tretorn sneakers!

Time for the ceremony on the beach…

HMMMM…. speechless on the next one…

It really was a lovely and very happy day!

This was an all around a beautiful destination wedding at the Royal Resort in Playa del Carmen! I hope this small sample of the day’s photographs gives a little glimpse into the day that Roza and Gerard spent with family and friends who traveled to celebrate their marriage in the Royal’s beautiful gazebo overlooking the ocean in Playa del Carmen. (some from all the way around the world!). Roza and Gerard we are so happy for the two of you and thank you for letting us share in your day!

The bride and wedding party (bridesmaids and groom’s ladies!) made a very dramatic and beautiful entrance to the ceremony.

Pretty ceremony details! There is nothing like a turquoise ocean as a backdrop of course!

Some photographs on the beach during the cocktail hour…

Bride and groom, this photo was taken in the gazebo where they said “I do”.

Such a beautiful beach wedding! Yari and James are an awesome couple! We loved being able to share in the oodles of laughter (and more than a few happy tears!) these two shared with their friends and family throughout the day. By the end of the evening we felt like we had made a whole new group of friends (not to mention a new branch of the Medina clan). It was very clear that many hours had been spent lovingly and carefully planning this lovely vintage inspired beach wedding. The Azul beach resort in Puerto Morelos, is one of our favorites in the Riviera Maya, it was perfect for this intimate event. I hope the photographs reflect a bit of the happiness and bring back wonderful memories for the bride and groom! All photographs Lauren and Elizabeth Medina.

This destination wedding had a vintage theme that was carried out elegantly, the brooch bouquets carried by the bride and bridesmaids were amazing!

Greetings! I hope everyone is having a relaxing summer! Toan and Jessica’s destination wedding was held at the Royal Cancun. Hot and humid with clear skies above the beach ceremony and reception, Cancun’s famous white sand and turquoise water were amazing. All in all a beautiful day in paradise… right up to the end of the reception when a sudden rain took us all by surprise! Lindsey and I met up with the bride and groom early the next morning for the day after session. This was a lot of fun as well and a great chance to take some relaxed photographs (especially once everyone had finished waking up!) Jessica…. you have been patient long enough so I will stop writing so that you and Toan can see a few of the photographs from your very special big day in Mexico! Below, a few bridal photographs before the ceremony. I loved Jessica’s smile and the wedding colors really popped with the bright water in the backdrop!

The wedding party was a lot of fun… it was HOT out and super bright on the beach but they were a lot of fun all through the photos.

It was a great party…this was such a fun crowd and DJ Doremixx kept everyone on the dance floor.

I guess I would have to say that other than the opportunity to make good use of my share of the creativity (something I am convinced we are all blessed with!) my favorite thing about photographing weddings would be the fabulous people met along the way, whether they be colleagues and clients. Shani and Steven,…WOW! Lindsey and I have loved getting to know the two of you very much, thanks for sharing your celebration at the Mayan Riviera’s Azul Sensatori Resort. The first photos I am posting are from the morning after trash the dress session, followed by the wedding day images. All images Elizabeth and Lindsey Medina.

Wedding day at Azul Sensatori. It had looked like it might rain but turned out to be a fantastic day!

What a fantastic day! With its beautiful architecture and grounds the Fairmont Mayakoba is hands down one of our favorite Playa del Carmen wedding photography locations. Corey and Jillayne were marriedon the golf course this Playa del Carmen wedding venue on a bright day in May. I love seeing the beautiful day and the sunny disposition of this very happy bride and groom captured in the wedding photographs. The clock seems to flow in very unusual and mysterious ways when a wedding is in process and we sometimes feel that the biggest luxury we encounter at a wedding is time during the day to create relaxed and memorable photographs. Little by little I have come to appreciate as one of the most important skills an experienced wedding photographer can possess the ability to wrestle that ticking clock into submission and make every minute count! Jillayne and Corey’s wedding stands out as one in which a relaxed schedule (and couple) allowed for a great variety of images and lighting conditions, not to mention that starting the day somewhat early allowed for photographs not only of bride and groom candidly with their respective teams but also alone together before the ceremony (first look photographs = priceless!). Now if we could just figure out how to manage time to have enough days on the calendar to both shoot and edit our summer weddings!
